A teacher who worked at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids in Iowa has been sentenced to 360 days in jail, after admitting sleeping with a pupil “hundreds of times” following grooming him with selfies.
Mary Beth Haglin, 24, originally from Alexandria, Minnesota, admitted her relationship with her 17-year-old male target at Washington High School, but defended her actions, saying “I am the victim.”
Mary Beth Haglin said of her sexual relationship with the teenager. “He did so with such intelligence and such an elevated vocabulary that I was completely duped by the whole facade.”
In May 2015, Mary Beth Haglin received a Fulbright award to serve in Bulgaria, but had to decline the opportunity.
